How it works
Low-quality images online usually come from the same three steps, and this tool does exactly those: shrink the resolution, save as JPEG at a very low quality setting, and repeat the save a few times so the damage adds up.
With “Keep original size” on, the degraded picture is stretched back to the original width and height without smoothing, so the blocks stay visible. Turn it off to get a genuinely smaller file.
Your original file is never changed — the tool makes a new copy. The image is processed in your browser tab and never uploaded.
What each preset does
| Preset | Resolution | JPEG quality | Times re-saved |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slightly worse | 75% | 50% | 1 |
| Low quality | 50% | 25% | 2 |
| Very low | 30% | 10% | 3 |
| Deep-fried | 15% | 5% | 5 |
FAQ
- How do I reduce the quality of an image?
- Choose or drop the picture above, pick a preset, and press Download. Each preset lowers the resolution and JPEG quality by the amounts listed in the table.
- Why would anyone want a low-quality image?
- The low-quality look is a meme style of its own, it's handy for jokes and reaction images, and a heavily compressed copy is much smaller when you only need a rough preview.
- Does the file get smaller?
- Yes when “Keep original size” is off — fewer pixels and stronger compression both shrink the file. With it on, the picture keeps its full dimensions, so the file shrinks less.
- Is my picture uploaded?
- No. The browser decodes, degrades and saves the image locally. Nothing leaves your device.
- My iPhone photo won't open.
- Some browsers can't read HEIC photos directly. Convert it with the HEIC to JPG converter on this site first, then bring the JPG here.
